Kammahav

A new musical project combining Christian Gustafsson’s musical soundscapes with the words and vocals of Tony Jenkins…Christian has played and recorded in many Swedish bands including Victorian Tin, who released a cassette on Everlasting Records. He lives in Värmland and plays guitars, bass, keyboards, programming and mandolin which he records at his home studio. Tony has contributed vocals to a few Cambridge based bands: The Sound of Pop Art, Lizard Brain and his current band The New Fools. But it was through his short time running a record label in the 80’s/90’s, Everlasting Records with Nick Clarke of Rhythm Mail Order, that he first encountered Christian.

RJ Archer and the Painful Memories

R.J. Archer is a guitarist and singer from Cambridgeshire with a recorded output that goes back to 1997 in various bands that have gained airtime on John Peel’s Radio 1 show, BBC 6Music and Xfm along the way. In June 2018 he released a vinyl and download solo album ‘No Consolation Prize’ through independent Danish label Ragged Rooftops. R.J. has recently moved towards a tougher blues style and as of July 2019 has been playing his songs with a band, the Painful Memories. The Painful Memories are Roger James (the bass) and Ben Kingsbury (the drums).

Luke James Williams

In November 2018, Cambridge based singer-songwriter Luke James Williams released his debut EP ‘Drove’. The first single ‘Rabbit Hole’ has received airplay on BBC6 Music, Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing whilst other cuts from the EP have been featured and played by Folk Radio UK and Hype Machine. Second single ‘Still In Bed’ has received huge support from BBC6 Music DJ Tom Robinson who recently chose it as his 6Music Recommends track of 2019 so far which then saw it played by Tom Ravenscroft, Lauren Laverne and Steve Lamacq. The song has also attracted a large listenership on Spotify with over 50,000 plays on the platform. Luke has received rave reviews for his engaging live performances and has supported artists such as Stu Larsen, The Little Unsaid and Megson. Broadly categorised as alt.folk and drawing influences from the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Nick Drake and PJ Harvey, Williams paints pictures with words and sings them in his own distinctly British voice.

The above three tracks were released as part of Cambridge Calling Volume 4

Psychic Lemon

Psychic Lemon return with their third studio album, Freak Mammal. This is the band’s second release in the space of six months, after their live album Live at the Smokehouse sold out on vinyl within 48 hours in April. Freak Mammal is being released on Drone Rock Records, alongside a repress of their sought-after self-titled first album.

Float Here Forever

Float Here Forever is a four-piece alternative rock band influenced by the music of Bob Mould, Dinosaur Jr, Deftones and Cloud Nothings. The band is from Metro Detroit Michigan featuring Darrell Bazian on vocals/guitar, Nick Marko on drums/percussion, Don Dyson on bass, and Kevin Watts on guitar.
Darrell Bazian has spent the last 2 decades writing and composing music for bands that he formed, managed and played in. (Osmus, Singer Soldier) He has opened for platinum and gold selling artists, had his music aired on regional and international radio stations, and has licensed his music to companies such as Chrysler through his and Marko’s company ALP Music. When he is not playing, recording and touring with Float Here Forever he and fellow band mate Nick Marko spend their time composing and engineering music for the ALP Music library.

Nick Marko (Singer Soldier, The Holy Fire) started playing clubs at the age of 14 and started releasing records on a national level in the 2000’s with The Holy Fire (Sony). He became recognized as a drummer by publications like Revolt Media and Amplifier Magazine. Billboard.com described The Holy Fire as a “vibrant mixture of shimmering melody and darkly literate post-punk texture.” Marko, a former Sony/BMG recording artist was produced by Michael Ivins of the Flaming Lips and has recorded with Grammy winner Dave Feeny.

New members Don Dyson(bass) and Kevin Watts(guitar) have both been playing in the Detroit music scene since they were teenagers. Dyson spent the majority of time with the band Audfeed and Watts spent his time with The Senate and Marcus: The Apex Predator.
Float Here Forever released The Owl their first EP in 2016, followed by the EP Inexhaustible in 2017 and most recently Tour The Ruins January 1st 2019.

The new E.P Stacking Tombstones was released on January 1st of 2020. It was recorded at Temper mill studios in Ferndale, Michigan by Grammy award winner Dave Feeny (White Stripes, Loretta Lynn) and mastered by Alan Douches (Dillinger Escape Plan, Brand New, Mastodon) of West West Side Music.

The Nearlys

From Manchester (UK). The Nearlys are multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Helen Walker and drummer Mike Walker. Stylistically eclectic; tracks often have a strong emphasis on lyric, sometimes humour, always delivered with a Northern accent. The Nearlys have been compared to Sandy Denny, Elbow, Harry Nilsson, Alex Turner, Steely Dan, Yes, Gentle Giant, Colin Blunstone & 10cc. Influences: The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Webb, Peter Cook, Woody Allen, Nina Simone. http://www.thenearlys.com

The Grays

Lee and Kev are former singer and keyboardist respectively for The Rubys, who released 2 albums and several EPs over 6 years. These were produced by Martin Coogan, former Mock Turtles frontman, and gained critical acclaim in both the UK and US.

When The Rubys called it a day, Lee and Kev decided to stay together to write and record their own material, without the constraints of being tied to a particular genre of music. This has given them the opportunity to explore different and varied avenues that they wouldn’t have previously been able to do.

The new band is called The Grays. There are half a dozen completed songs, and many more to come.

Hedfogger

Peter from sycloner with a solo project. His fifth release.

Soular Order

Soular Order is a musician from Manchester, England who creates experimental, ambient and beat driven electronic music, combining elements of analogue synths, guitars and found sound percussion. Born Jon Maynard on November 26th, 1988, in Manchester, England, he began creating music under the name Soular Order in 2010. Having spent most of his youth playing guitar in various local bands, Jon began producing electronic music under various names until settling on the alias. Jon released 2 EP’s (A World Apart / Dystopia) in 2012, before going on to form the label City By Night Records. On October 26th of the same year, he released the IV EP to launch the label.
Following on from the IV EP, he went on to release 5 EP’s through the City By Night Records label (From here / Overwatch / Roamer / Unearth / Isonomic) before releasing his first full length album Rhythmic Sleep in 2016. Since then, he’s gone on to found Beatsupply with label mate IOM, and has continued to release various EP’s and singles.

Dry Cleaning

Lewis Maynard, Tom Dowse and Nick Buxton provide a mix of post-punk and 80s indie over which Flo Shaw develops mesmerising spoken vocal passages. This is their second EP from October 2019.

Peter Hammill

Continuing the track by track journey through Peter’s 8CD box set of live solo recordings “Not Here Not Now”. We are still on the Italian CD at this point.

Spirit

From a new release “Two Sides of a Rainbow: Live at the Rainbow 1978”. The band at this point in time was Randy California, Larry “Fuzzy” Knight and Ed Cassidy. I previously had part of this gig on the Live Spirit album from 1979 but this Cherry Red/Esoteric Release contains the whole gig (with multiple encores) as opposed to the nine tracks on the older release/

Dave Graney ‘n’ The Coral Snakes

From the 1994 album “You Wanna Be There, But You Don’t Wanna Travel” the  fourth album by Dave Graney ‘n’ the Coral Snakes. With Graney on vocals, the Coral Snakes line-up included his wife Clare Moore on drums and percussion; Robin Casinader on keyboards, violin and mandolin; Rob Hayward on lead guitar; and early member Gordy Blair returning on bass guitar. It was released in June on Mercury Records. In the middle of a period where grunge was king The Coral Snakes delivered an excellent album – a brave move but it did begin to give them the exposure they deserved.

Elizabeth The Second

Ben Moro (guitar and vocals), Michele Venturini (bass guitar) and Luca Gallato (drums). Their music is influenced by The Clash, Blur, The Libertines, Artic Monkeys, Nirvana and The Stone Roses. They formed in mid-2018 in Padova, northern Italy. The ‘Two Margaritas at The Fifty Five’ EP is a journey through impulsive sounds, seasoned with a captivating melodic compartment. It was recorded at the Hypnoise Recording Studio under the careful supervision of sound engineer Filippo Galvanelli and mastered by Giovanni Versari at La Maestà Mastering Studio (Muse, Afterhours, Verdena, Calibro 35, Nic Cester).

Malaria!

Malaria was a German all female new-wave band, formed in Berlin January 1981 and who stayedtogether until 1983. The EP “Weißes Wasser” was recorded in Brussels and released in 1982 on the the label “Les Disques Du Crépuscule” and contains the classic “Kaltes klares Wasser”.

Tuxedomoon

Re-mastered version of the very first Tuxedomoon full-length album which originally came out in 1980 on The Residents’ label Ralph Records. It remains a classic to this day, with its drum machines, minimalistic instrumentation (mostly voice, organ, sax and bass) and strong atmospheres. Alongside “Desire”, “Half Mute” was largely responsible for establishing the band’s worldwide cult status. It contains memorable songs such as “59 to 1”, “Seeding the Clouds”, “What Use”, and inimitable instrumental tracks “Tritone”, “Nazca”, “Volo Vivace” and more.

Propori

Luko handed me this release after their recent gig at Fuel. Lots of info on this band at this LINK
