SHOW NOTES

This week a selection of brand new releases……

  • HOUR ONE
  • Eric Wyatt “Bud Powell” from The Golden Rule, For Sonny
    • 2019 Whaling City Sound WCS117
    • Through his six recordings as a bandleader, tenor talent Eric Wyatt has basically been performing unspoken tributes to Sonny Rollins. Wyatt has said that he will never forget the impact Rollins—who often played with Wyatt’s father—had on him growing up. Here, on The Golden Rule: for Sonny, he proves he is a man of his word. Wyatt’s Whaling City Sound recording is a tenor-driven tour de force that is well worth checking out.
  • fo mo deep “Move On Up” from Szygy
    • fo/mo/deep is releasing their 4th recording. This is their first time recording as a Jazz Trio –
    • Formed back 2007 by Bassist/Bandleader, Ron “FatKat” Holmes, Jr., they are now known for their intelligently energetic and unpredictable shows, created a formidable reputation for this jazz-funkworld infused band.  fo/mo/deep:Ron “FatKat” Holmes, Basses (Fretted/Fretless) André Scott, Drums, Percussion Robert Mason, Grand & Electric Piano, Organ
    • RH Media release October 1st
  • Lauren Lee “Windowsill” from Windowsill
    • Lauren Lee’s music has been described as, “equal parts hip jazz, avant adventure, and… something completely different”   Likened both to the female jazz pioneers that came before her as well as artists like Regina Spektor and Bjork, Lee’s compositions and improvisational style nestle between straight ahead sensibilities and avant garde techniques. Her work intentionally inhabits this place of “between”, and in Lee’s case, the “between” is nestled between where jazz has been and where jazz is going.
