With Chick Corea and Dave Holland leaving the band to form Circle with Anthony Braxton and Barry Altschul, and Steve Grossman also departing, Miles needed to hire some new talent to meet his gigging commitments. Gary Bartz and Michael Henderson were recruited and Jumma Santos was also hired to add to the percussion section. The loss of one keyboard, a new horn player and the expanded three man percussion section changed the dynamic somewhat. This album, which is released in several versions, is from a broadcast on KPFA-FM of the first night of four joint headliner with Leon Russel, with Seatrain and Hammer as the supports. This album bridges the gap between the Fillmore West June gigs/the Isle of Wight Festival period with the stunning run at the Cellar Door in December. Miles utilises Bitches Brew with On The Corner material in a remarkable performance. The annoying glitch is that in the middle of “What I Say” there is a radio station promo advert running under the live music. An excellent recording and some fascinating interpretations of Miles work in 1970.
